Hi Anon and welcome to where all your answers live. You asked, "Why?"
Ahhhh, starting right out with the big one. Okay, we're up to it.
First you must know that the answer to each person's "why" is an individual highly personal thing. We each ask "why" for different reasons pertaining to our personal experiences, psychology and view of our place in the world. "Why" is the basic search for meaning. This is why meaning, in the existential sense, is so important. Even nihilists understand that meaning's importance to the individual is the deepest striving of humans. They just answer that there is none, not that the search for it is unimportant. I'll leave it to Basil to expound on that. My answer to you is: because you need to. Think about that and you will have more understanding. And probably more questions. Which we will answer here. -Parilyn
(my goodness!! edit, man!!! I don't believe Anonymous came here looking to read a novel. sigh. you'll have to excuse Parilyn - he can be quite dramatic at times.)
